A mysterious new substance called “Coral” was discovered on the remote planet Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. However, it caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.
Nearly half a century later, the Coral resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off. after the catastrophe. Extraterrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight for control of this substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds himself involved in a struggle for control of the substance with corporations and other factions.
Gameplay
As with previous titles, there will be an emphasis on player customization allowing for high levels of freedom and high-speed combat. Combat itself takes place through a mission-based structure, focusing on intense mecha battles and will feature dynamic and intense bosses that only the mecha genre can offer. Enemies will be aggressive and violent, and the game is designed expecting the player’s play style to be like that too. Offline content includes an exclusive single-player story mode, while an online arena will be implemented for PvP.
The gameplay loop is described by game director Masaru Yamamura as follows:<br/ > The general cycle of the game is to complete missions, earn money, and use the money to buy more expensive weapons and parts for your mecha. Within that, you’re tuning these parts, tuning the weapons and tuning your mecha to suit your play style, changing parameters, changing the performance of various parts to suit the way you want to approach each mission in each battle.
The speed of the game’s combat has been described as being between the Armored Core 3 era and the Armored Core V era. In terms of new mechanics, a stance system that encourages aggressive, action-oriented fights (later called “Stun”) was implemented, where continuous attacks against even the strongest enemies can break their posture and inflict a critical blow. There will also be a limited AP recovery option during missions.
