Roguelite? Metroidvania? Roguevania!
Did you grow up playing roguelikes, witness the rise of roguelites and perhaps even the birth of roguelite-lites? Now we want to introduce you to our RogueVania, the illegitimate child of the modern roguelites (Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon, Spelunky, etc.) and the old MetroidVania (Castlevania: SotN and its predecessors).
Features
RogueVania: Progressive exploration of an interconnected world, with the replayability of a rogue-lite and the adrenaline that brings the threat of permanent death.
Dark Souls-like 2D action: Difficult combat but fair enough, more than 50 weapons and spells with unique gameplay, and of course, the emergency roll to get you out of any trouble.
Non-linear progression: Sewer, Ossuary or Walls? Once unlocked, permanent abilities allow you to access new paths to accomplish your goal. Choose a path according to your skills and equipment, your way of playing or just your mood.
Exploration: Secret rooms, hidden passages, enchanting settings. Enjoy the breeze in the towers and feel the fresh air hitting your face…
Interconnected levels and the progressive unlocking of the island encourage exploration of the surroundings. Add in some character evolution and permanent weapon upgrades and you can see how Dead Cells draws on the lineage of MetroidVanias that precede it.
At the end of the day, it’s YOUR skills as a player that matter! Roguelites encourage continuous improvement, until that obstacle that seemed insurmountable becomes a walk in the park. Ruthless combats along with the absence of any protection net increase the adrenaline of each match with unparalleled replayability.
