In terms of gameplay, Dragon Ball Fighterz borrows concepts from several other fighting games, most notably the control scheme from the Marvel vs. Capcom and the team mechanics, with three primary attack buttons and a unique action button, as well as a few others. The game takes place in a similar scheme to many other fighting games developed by the traditional bow system. Basic combat controls consist of multiple buttons: L (light attack), M (medium attack), H (heavy attack), S (special attack), A1 (Z Watch 1), A2 (Z Watch 2) and O Control stick/d-pad are used for movement.
Players select three characters to form a team. A character is controlled and can be changed with one of the other characters at any time. Players can also call on one of their other characters to perform an “assist” move, allowing for simultaneous attacks and combos with the entire team. All three characters on a team must be defeated for a match to end.
The Universal moves “Vanish” and “Scarking Blast” resemble the Roman cancel system commonly found in Arc System games and in the Geilty series Blame Dust series respectively (with a style similar to before DRX and after DRX), while the “Super Dash” Move resembles Arcana Heart’s homing system and is similar to homing dashes seen in other Ball Dragon fighting games. Just like in the aforementioned classic Dragon Ball fighting games, characters can “Ki Charge” to raise their power level similar to other fighting game mechanics that allow for meter charging. Also added are the ability to deflect Ki blasts or other projectiles through a Parry mechanic, as well as being able to use a dragon dash that acts as a basic throw that throws the victim away while the attack-dashes.< /p>
Other mechanics involve the use of the automatic combo system used by fighting games like Persona 4: Arena (tap a button for an automatic preset combo), which now also applies to the medium attack button ( automatically giving all characters two combos). Forward + Medium Attack is also a universal aerial attack for all characters, which cannot be chained.
Almost all characters are also planned to have different styles/archetypes, in addition to more contemporary fighting games, instead of using recycled base moves like in the Budoukai Games.
An instant kill scene, known as a “dramatic finish,” is only for two characters at certain stages if one of them won the match with the heavy attack button standing or the attack disappears (until the second season) like an ender.
The third season adds two new systems:
Being a game to have gameplay similar to Marvel vs. Capcom 2 – 3, players can now change three different assist types while selecting their chosen characters before the match.
The sparkling explosion state has increased if players have only one limb left standing.
< The story modes explanation of why all fighters are capable of fighting for even reasons in terms of power and therefore must rely on technique (or the player's soul that inhabits them to allow them to use more power) to win are due to waves that inhibit strong people up to a set level.
