The game is played from a first-person perspective in single player or Co-op multiplayer. It is an open world simulation, in which the player needs to ensure his survival by collecting raw materials and food. However, the character, Jake, cannot rely solely on accumulating these essential items. Players also need to create shelter and weapons with the materials they have collected. The player starts in a lonely camp with no context. Throughout the game, dynamic changes occur in the environment, which influence the physical and psychological state of the character, e.g. in the form of hallucinations. Furthermore, the player must maintain a balanced diet with the help of a smartwatch. The smartwatch provides insight into the nutrients the character lacks, alerting the player of the player’s health. [1] The player must get enough sleep and maintain his health, for example, by avoiding contact with poisonous animals or unpleasant foods and avoiding injuries. The player can make medicine and bandages, which allows them to restore health. Infected wounds can be treated by placing maggots in the wound and embedding it after the maggots have cleaned away the dead flesh. A compass and GPs serve as navigational aids.
In optional story mode, the player follows a story structure that revolves around the search for his missing wife.
A prequel to The original release, titled Spirits of Amazonia Part 1, was released on January 28, 2021. Spirits of Amazonia Part 2 released on June 22, 2021. Both offer single-player and cooperative play.
Story
The story revolves around an anthropologist named Jake Higgins, who wakes up in the jungle on the banks of the Amazon River. He tries to familiarize himself with his surroundings to ensure his survival and find his wife Mia, who went missing after taking a solo trip to the nearby tribal village. She is a linguist and wants to make first contact with the Yabahuaca indigenous people. The story is told from the first-person perspective of Jake, who realizes that his wife is in danger. His only connection to her is through a radio.
Along his journey, Jake, as well as the natural dangers in the jungle, encounter a faction painted from the skull of the Yabahuaca, the Waraha, made up of members of the original tribe who decided to resort to violence against the researchers.
