The Hollow Knight is the vessel chosen by the Pale King to seal the glow and save the slowest from infection. Like their brothers, they are the son of the king and queen of the hoist, born in the abyss to be infused with the power of the void. As such, they are genderless. This condition of birth should also leave them without mind, will and voice, to prevent the brightness from influencing them. However, their purity was misjudged, tainted by an instilled idea, a bond with the pale king who created them.
Regardless of their impurity, the hollow knight was trained and raised, eventually becoming a vessel fully adult. The glow was sealed within them, and they were chained within the temple of the black egg, where they were expected to count the infection for eternity. However, due to the above-mentioned impurities, gloss can still have an influence. Ultimately, it resulted in the infection resurfacing and the kingdom falling into ruin.
In time, the Hollow Knight faded from the memory of the fallen kingdom. Only the memorial in the middle of the City of Tears bears witness to his sacrifice to save Hallownest.
After some time, the power of Radiance surged from the Hollow Knight, shattering the shell and infecting it completely. This event was the catalyst that brought the knight back to Highnowest. The knight can free and fight the hollow knight after killing the three dreamers who sealed the entrance to the black egg.
