Unlike previous Lego Star Wars games, levels in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga do not need to be completed in a linear order. The game’s hub area is now a vast open-world environment that the player can fully explore. Additionally, random encounters can also appear in the hub relevant to the time the player is participating, and players can choose to engage or disengage in encounters. Each film consists of five missions, contributing to a total of forty-five levels.

Released on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The game was released in a standard edition and a Deluxe Edition. The latter includes a special Darth Vader cape, a “character collection pack” (seven DLC character packs), and a Luke Skywalker-With-Blue-Milk minifigure. The seven DLC packs to be included in the Character Collection Pack are The Mandalorian Pack 1, The Mandalorian Pack 2, A Rogue: A Star Wars Story Pack, A Classic Characters Pack, A Solo: A Story Pack of Star Wars, a Star Wars: The Bad Lot pack and a soldier pack. A classic Obi-Wan Kenobi is included in the digital release.
