PAYDAY 3 Torrent takes place after the end of Payday 2, where the robbers went their separate ways and left their criminal lives, but something motivates them again to continue in the world of crime. The original team of characters from Payday: The Heist (“Dallas”, “Chains”, “Wolf” and “Hoxton”), along with two other heists, one returning from Payday 2 (“Joy”) and a new character ( “Pearl”), appear as additional characters. The game takes place mainly in New York, with one of the missions taking place at the “Gold & Sharke Incorporated” bank. Payday 3 is set in the 2020s, aiming to add more depth to the Payday gang’s crimes, with significant differences such as more advanced surveillance or the emergence of cryptocurrencies.
The development of Payday 3 was announced in May 2016 by Starbreeze Studios, which acquired the rights to the intellectual property for around US$30 million. In March 2021, Plaion (formerly Koch Media) committed to pay €50 million to assist with the development and marketing of the game, including over 18 months of post-launch support using the games-as-a-service model. Payday 3 was developed using Unreal Engine 4, but will be updated to use Unreal Engine 5 upon release.
On January 1, 2023, a teaser trailer titled “A New Criminal Dawn” was released. , revealing the game’s logo. The console versions will be the same as the PC version of the game, unlike its predecessor, due to the use of the Unreal Engine. In June 2023, Overkill announced that the game would be released on September 21, 2023, with early access on September 18 for pre-orders of the Silver and Gold packs.
