In Scarlet and Violet, the player attends the Naranja or Uva Academy. The academy hosts an annual “Treasure Hunt,” in which students are encouraged to look for something they value by exploring the region. After encountering the legendary Pokémon Koraidon or Miraidon, which joins and assists the player despite having lost its battle ability, the player is encouraged to participate in three stories: Victory Road, Starfall Street and Path of Legends.
In Victory Road, Nemona – the Champion-ranked trainer who rivals the player, often battling them throughout their journey – asks them to complete all eight Pokémon Gyms in the Paldea region. After defeating the leaders of each Gym, they can reach the rank of Champion by defeating the region’s Elite Four and Champion Geeta. After becoming champion, Nemona challenges the player to a final battle.
Starfall Street begins after the player helps shy student Penny face Team Star, a group responsible for bullying at the academy, when Cassiopeia – the founder of Team Star and Penny’s secret identity – enlists them in “Operation Starfall”, which aims to force Team Star to disband by defeating all five squad bosses, stripping them of their authority within the group. They are assisted by the academy director Clavell, who aims to discover the origins of Team Star disguised as a student named Clive, and Penny, who wishes to monitor the player personally in addition to guiding him as Cassiopeia. They discover that Team Star was founded to combat bullying rather than cause it, and they confronted their bullies eighteen months earlier, causing the bullies to quit and several members of the gym’s staff to resign. After defeating all of the squad bosses, Penny meets the player in the school yard to reveal her identity and challenge them to a battle. After his defeat, Clavell removes his disguise and offers peace with Team Star, although he subjects its members to community service as punishment for various violations.
Arven, aiming to locate the five legendary Herba Mystica, asks the player to join him in the Path of Legends story. To obtain each Herba Mystica, the player and Arven must team up to defeat a “Titan Pokémon” – an abnormally large Pokémon powered by Herba Mystica. Later in the storyline, Arven reveals that he wishes to use Herba Mystica to restore the health of his pet Mabosstiff, who was injured by a Pokémon in Area Zero – the workplace of his father, Professor Sada or Turo. After defeating all five Titans, he and the player use Herba Mystica to restore Mabosstiff’s health and regain Koraidon/Miraidon’s lost powers. He then challenges the player to a final battle, before being called by the professor to go to Area Zero with the Scarlet or Violet Book. However, Arven decides that they must recruit more allies before traveling to Area Zero.
