The game is based solely on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book trilogy. It focuses on Gollum, covering his activities from the discovery of a ring to the run-up to the first few chapters of Ring Fellowship. Gollum’s personality is divided between his Gollum (cruel, villainous) and Sméagol (social, cautious).
Several characters will be encountered, including some exclusive to the game itself.
Gameplay
The game revolves around stealth. Player choice will focus on the game, in a system where they choose between “Smeagol’s decision” and “Gollum’s decision”. The former tends to be more honorable, while the latter is “darker”.
Gollum is capable of scaling walls and attacking enemies from above, but is poorly suited to direct combat.
Development
This is the first game produced under an agreement trained by Daedalic Entertainment and Middle-earth companies. Daedalic was able to secure the deal as, according to Daedalic, “it became clear that the Tolkien estate looked for a company capable of doing something more story-driven than some of the other products that have come out in recent years.” ”
On January 6, 2020, senior producer Kai Fiebig revealed that Gollum’s character design will not resemble that of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit Trilogies. Gollum was chosen as the team’s interpretation of the character. Gollum is voiced by Wayne Forester.
Art director Mathias Fischer noted that the story will include a series of the “less cool,” or less popular, Nazgûl.
On May 4, 2020, it has been reported that the game will be released for Xbox Series X, PC and PS5. Several screenshots of the game were revealed.
