At the age of nine, Lara survived a plane crash in the Himalayan mountains that resulted in the death of her mother. After miraculously surviving a ten-day solo walk from the crash site to Kathmandu, she spent the rest of her childhood under the close tutelage of her archaeologist father – the late Earl of Abbingdon, Richard Croft.
At eighteen, following her father’s death, Lara inherited the Croft estates and became Countess of Abbingdon. Since then, she has been credited with the discovery of sixteen archaeological sites of international significance.
She has been hailed as an archaeological sisterhood and a glorified treasure hunter, depending on who you listen to. There are thousands of rumors surrounding Lady Croft’s exploits, invariably involving the inexplicable or downright unbelievable. Unfortunately, Lady Croft herself is available to comment, which further lifts the veil of mystery surrounding her life and work. “Consequently, Lady Croft remains the focus of wild speculation and intense debate. When Lara Croft is nine years old, the business plane carrying her and her mother crashes into the Himalayas in Nepal , leaving them as the only survivors. After taking shelter in the ruins of an ancient Buddhist temple, Lara discovered an ornate stone dais holding a sword. Unwittingly activating the ancient artifact, Lara watches in horror as her mother disappears in front of her eyes. Devastated, she left two pages of her diary behind, but kept the instructions on how to open the portal with her.
Years later, Lara, with the help of Zip and Alister Fletcher, travels to the ancient civilization of Tiwanaku in Bolivia, after a tip from Anaya Imanu university.
